The International African Bibliography is published quarterly, and provides an invaluable reference list of current books, articles, and papers in African studies. Its first, general section is given over to agriculture, anthropology, the Arts, economics and development, education, history and archaeology, languages law, literature, politics, religon and philosophy, science and social studies. Then, region by region, (North Africa, NortheastAfrica,Western Central Eastern and Southern Africa the Indian Ocean islands, and the African diaspora), the editor, David Hall, lists each work and assigns it one or more categories. Thus, for example, number 1390 under 'West Africa' reads 'Rutake, Pascal. Administration et gestion du developpement rural: I'experience du Senegal. Cahiers africains d'administration publique/ African administrative studies. (ranger) 30, 1 988 p. 109-140. RURAL DEVELOPMENT' A detailed subject index completes the whole of this excellent bibliographical tool. The IAB is compiled at the Library, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, published in January, April, July and November.
