Abstract/Description
The EU Tropical Forestry Sourcebook

Notes
The renewal and protection of tropical forests, blended with their sensitive economic management, is a key area for international action. European governments and the European Union account for a large share of international investment in tropical forests; in 1993, their contributions represented two-thirds of all bilateral assistance.
The Tropical Forest Sourcebook takes the reader through the jungle of hundreds of agencies, budget lines, project criteria and all the jargon that the best of bureaucracies can create. Excellently presented, it describes the work of all national agencies and EU departments within the European Union in tropical forestry projects and programmes in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia and the Pacific.
The guide intends to inform policy makers and partners in the South, other donors, and the European agencies themselves. The compilers hope that it will lead to greater understanding of needs and responses, and improved coordination and impact.
There is a fourth group of people who could benefit: anyone wishing to produce a clear and highly usable guide to donor's work in any other sector, be it livestock or Bambara groundnuts or micro-credit, should strive to emulate this one. It is good.
