The opening of the magnificent new centre of CAB International's International Mycological Institute (IMI) was performed by Dr M S Swaminathan, World Food Prize Laureate, on 14 June 1993. The Institute was relocated from Kew to Bakeham Lane. Egham, Surrey in September 1992. Following the relocation of IMI, a new range of services and environmental projects is being developed. Topics include biodiversity and environmental surveys. particularly in relation to water, land and air pollution. There will also be projects on microbiological aspects of the bioremediation (natural and commercial) of toxic waste and cumulations and spillages. The new facilities have also allowed a further development of interests in the enhanced biodegradation of organic wastes. These new ventures will build on the current expertise of IMl's Industrial and Environmental Laboratory. IMl's long standing interest in foodstuffs has recently been focused by the establishment of a Food Industry Services group and the IMI Yeas Investigation Laboratory. One of the main advantages c the Egham site is the proximity of another CAB International institute, the International Institute of Biological Control (IIBC and also CABI Library Service on the University of London Silwood Park site at nearby Ascot. To mark the opening of the new IMI centre a commemorative book IMI retrospect and prospect has been published. IMI, Bakeham Lane Englefield Green, Egham Surrey TW20 9TY, UK
