Practicals: basic land surveying and irrigation by P I Adriaanse and S Povel, 1994 152pp ISBN 90 7085729 TOOL Publications, Sarphatistraat 650, 1018 AV Amsterdam, THE NETHERLAND.
This book explains basic irrigation and field surveying techniques by means of practical lessons. Some of these lessons are designed for a classroom situation - these include mathematical exercises on dimension, area, volume and specific density, conversion of units and working with maps and scale. The majority of the lessons, however, are 'field practicals' which encourage the reader to go out and actually apply what they have learnt. These tasks cover, among other things, the basics of land surveying, the use of specific equipment, soil conditions in relation to irrigation and the maintenance ofwater courses. The book is written primarily for teachers and students a training centres and schools although it can be used just a! well in field situations. The authors have made the lesson! as true to life as possible by providing detailed suggestion and diagrams as to how they should be carried out. How ever, the user is invited to adapt the lessons to suit his other individual needs and circumstances.
