Paper proposing TAC recommendations for incorporating forestry and agroforestry into the CGIAR system. It summarizes the processes followed by TAC, and the work of its two panels on national resources and forestry respectively, which came to similar conclusions.TAC recommended a single centralized entity at the global level to conduct specified and limited research and provide services for both forestry and agroforestry. TAC suggested approaching ICRAF about undertaking the central role, which would require changes in its structure and program. The bulk of CGIAR research in these fields should be conducted at the regional and national levels by other CGIAR centers. It was expected that substantial international forestry research on topics not addressed by the CGIAR would continue under other auspices. TAC suggested that its two panels, operating as one, and the CGIAR Secretariat undertake initiatives for moving in these directions.Agenda document, CGIAR Mid Term Meeting, May 1990.
