Abstract/Description
Oversight Committee paper on the subject of CGIAR policy towards the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union. The paper proposes a very restrictive policy, encouraging contacts, but limiting the use of resources in the light of the constrained finances of the CGIAR. It proposes that no activities be carried out in these countries in a manner that infringes on the Group's work in traditional developing countries. The paper proposes expanding the regional representation of developing countries in the CGIAR to include representatives of this region.Annexes include a World Bank note on agricultural extension and research in Azerbaijan, and information on the involvement of the IARCs in the area.Agenda document, CGIAR Mid Term Meeting, May 1994.
